I had completely forgotten about these cars until I saw one on an ad website.
This is basically a more comfortable Lotus Elise, produced by Lotus themselves using the Elise's chassis!
The base version had a 2.2 N/A all-aluminium inline four with 147hp, for a total weight of about 1 920lbs, which meant they were good for 0-60 in around 6 seconds!
The great thing is that since they don't have a Lotus logo on them, they can be had for about half the money. The one pictured above is currently for sale, with 33 500 miles, left hand drive, for 15 000€ (think 4 years old Miata price).
Interesting, isn't it?

That interior is plastic fantastic.

It's actually rather aluminium-fantastic:

Screw you GM for not bringing this over as a new Fiero!

Not interesting, amazing! It is a better looking Lotus Elise in my opinion, with a bad ass interior.
When I was in school, a guy owned one of those. It was silver with a pure mesh front grill, lowered on full Bilstein suspension with black OZ Superturismos and semi slicks. And he removed everything from the interior, including floor mats and the passenger seat. Badass machine, I always stopped for a look. The guy in the end softened out and traded it for a BMW 130i.

I found a crappy picture of the Speedster I saw parked at my school back in the day. Behold the amazing look:

It's not pointy and angular enough to wear the Fiero nameplate.

Nope, not doin' it for me. The grille is wrong, the fenders flare up, the middle looks flimsy, and the whole car generally looks too much like a Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice.

It's not supposed to look identical to the original Fiero. It's an excuse for them to have sold the VX220/Speedster here. It's a mid-engine GM sportscar with a 4 cylinder. I.E. Fiero.

Nice rims! And one of the few cars that look okay in silver!
